How can you implement a Quality Management Plan?

Quality Management Plan (QMP), which was introduced in ISO 9001:2008, provides a systematic approach to improving processes, products, and services through continual improvement. It helps to improve customer satisfaction and product/service quality by continuously measuring, analyzing, controlling and improving.

QMP is a common method to ensure business performance. QMP's goal is to improve service delivery and production. QMPs should cover all three dimensions - Products, Processes, and Services. If the QMP only covers one aspect, it's called a "Process QMP". The QMP that focuses on a Product/Service is called a "Product." QMP. The QMP that focuses on customer relationships is known as the "Customer" QMP.

Scope is the most important element in implementing a QMP. Strategy is the second. They are defined as follows:

Scope: This describes the scope and duration for the QMP. If your organization wishes to implement a QMP lasting six months, the scope will determine the activities during the first six month.

Strategy: This describes the steps taken towards achieving the goals set forth in the scope.

A typical QMP comprises five phases: Planning and Design, Development, Construction, Implementation, Maintenance. Each phase is described below:

Planning: This stage determines the QMP goals and prioritizes them. Every stakeholder involved in the project is consulted to determine their expectations and needs. Once the objectives and priorities have been identified, it is time to plan the strategy to achieve them.

Design: During this stage, the design team develops the vision, mission, strategies, and tactics required for the successful implementation of the QMP. These strategies are implemented by the development of detailed plans and procedures.

Development: The development team is responsible for building the resources and capabilities necessary to implement the QMP effectively.

Implementation: This involves the actual implementation of the QMP using the planned strategies.

Maintenance: The maintenance of the QMP is an ongoing task.

The QMP must also include several other items:

Stakeholder Engagement: It is crucial for the QMP to be a success. They should be involved in planning, design, development and implementation of the QMP.

Project Initiation - A clear understanding of the problem statement, and the solution is necessary for any project to be initiated. This means that the initiator should know why they want something done and what they hope for from the end result.

Time Frame: It is important to consider the QMP's time frame. If you plan to implement the QMP for a short period, you can start with a simple version. However, if you have a long-term commitment, you may require more elaborate versions.

Cost Estimation. Cost estimation is another crucial component of QMP. Without knowing how much you will spend, planning is impossible. The QMP should be cost-estimated before it can begin.

QMPs are not only a document, but also a living document. This is the most important aspect of QMPs. It evolves as the company grows and changes. So, it should be reviewed periodically to make sure that it still meets the needs of the organization.
